Not lazy

Posted in Uncategorized on February 27, 2011 by armedlittleboy

Most poor people are not lazy..

They catch the early bus…

They raise other people’s children…

They clean the street.

No, no, they’re not lazy.

Orosman at Zafira

Last night we went to see Dulaang UP’s ‘Orosman at Zafira’ at SM MoA’s Centerstage. The play, based on the work of the same title by Francisco Baltazar, tackles the consequences of love and the painful decisions that we sometimes have to make for it.

I must admit that I had trouble understanding what the actors were saying on stage from time to time, but it did not matter. The play brilliantly captured the words of Baltazar through its magnificent ethno-pop-rock fusion music and the amazing dance numbers which blended ethnic moves with modern jazz, with a hint of street and even of hiphop.

The production numbers are nothing short of astounding, with actors jumping, somersaulting, and thumping their limbs with the music created by a terrific band. The actors delivered, with some of them giving a very heartfelt performance (especially those who played Zamora, the narrator, and the evil brother).

But with all those big words that  I have used, all I really want to say is that I loved the play. You would too, if you take the time to see it.

let us just change the world on another day.

The children are starving

The forest is dying

The earth is starting to burn,

My bills are piling up

The deadlines are screaming

And my to-buy list stretches a mile away,

So let’s just the change world another day

She left without grand gestures last night
But just a slight wave of her hand
And some sway on her hips,
As subtle as the smile that lingered on her face
As she read a message on her phone
Mere seconds before another phone
Ignited her body and extinguished her life.
Notice the explosive way she left today
And juxtaposed it with her quiet ways,
The world does tend to play tricks on us:
On those who just happen to pass by,
Unknowingly taking a north-bound bus to hell,
And picked a seat in the epicentre
Of a headline waiting to happen.
Imagine what she would be doing right now
If she had picked a different seat,
Or rode a different bus.
Surely the world is now a less bit subtle,
A little more rougher,
A bit more harsher,
Without her presence tonight.
